January 20th, 2007:

NEW AC/DC Biography "MAXIMUM ROCK N ROLL" Press release:

AC/DC

Maximum Rock & Roll

By Murray Engleheart with Arnaud Durieux

NEW YORK, NY – December 20th, 2006 : Over three decades and more than 150 million albums, AC/DC has established itself as much more than just a great rock band. For millions of fans spanning several generations across the world, they are an ear-bleedingly loud, sweat-soaked religion, courtesy of such classic albums as Highway to Hell and Back in Black. Now “AC/DC Maximum Rock & Roll” (HarperCollins, $25.95) will debut in major bookstores across the country in January 2007.

This new book by Murray Engleheart and Arnaud Durieux offers astonishing breadth and scope, and for the very first time, the complete story of AC/DC. Everything you ever wanted to know and plenty more you never dreamt of is all here, the ultimate balls-out adventure, laced with sex, drunken escapades and brawls. It’s a journey that started in the suburban Sydney, Australia, bedrooms of brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, boys who could wreak havoc with their guitars. Over their power chords were the lyrics and voice of Bon Scott, who would lead them higher and higher — until his tragic death in 1980. The bittersweet irony after his death was that not only did the Youngs manage to hold together without him, but the band’s fortunes and status skyrocketed with his replacement, Brian Johnson, and the album Back in Black.

Five long years in the making, AC/DC Maximum Rock & Roll  is sourced from more than 1,300 interviews the band has given over the past thirty years combined with over 75 of the authors’ own interviews with those who worked with AC/DC both in the studio and on the road — many of whom have never spoken about the band publicly. It’s topped off with stunning, never-before-seen photos to create the ultimate portrait of the ultimate rock band. AC/DC Maximum Rock & Roll  was first published in Australia in November 2006.

Murray Engleheart is one of the most respected music journalists in Australia, having written for magazines all over the world in the past quarter of a century and interviewed the members of AC/DC on many occasions.

Arnaud Durieux is a former rock journalist who has followed AC/DC’s career for twenty-five years, amassing what is without question the largest archive of AC/DC material anywhere in the world. He has interviewed the band numerous times and has worked as a consultant on many of the band’s projects for Warner Music and Sony Music. He also runs the authoritative www.ac-dc.net website.

Praise for the Australia release

“The most authoritative AC/DC book to date.”

―Christie Eliezer, Billboard Australia

"Maximum Rock 'n' Roll is the most comprehensive well-written book ever published on the best rock band that ever lived. A great read, full of surprising facts, it inspires you to listen to all those great albums all over again."

Nick Snelling, Editor, Beat magazine

“It’s fan-bloody-tastic. One of the best Rock & Roll books I’ve read in a long time. I really want you guys to go out and buy it. The plan is to knock Alan Jones’ book off the number 1 Best Sellers list and this is the book’s that’s gonna do it. This is fascinating from beginning to end, and I very rarely rave about a book.”

―Spoonman, Triple M

“This book is a travelogue, a diary scrawled on a napkin, a screamed roadie interview held backstage and a biography all in one. Ample photos supplement the copious quotable quotes, amusing tales and myth-breaking truisms.

MAX applauds Murray and Arnaud for compiling this loving tribute to a band who have molded most of what we know as rock today.

This book does their story justice and must have been a biblical effort worthy of the original saints.”

―MAX TV website

“Accadacca mainstays Malcolm and Angus Young are, in any case, hardly the most eloquent commentators for this legend. Their foul-mouthed, grammatically garbled quotes make for abundant colour, but Engleheart and Durieux tell the story from more objective angles, pressing their faces as close as anyone has to the famous dome of silence that surrounds Australia's biggest rock export.”

―The Age

Jan 5th, 2007:
Dave Evans To Perform For Bon Scott

by Tim Cashmere - January 5 2007

Original AC/DC singer Dave Evans is set to return to Australia from his Dallas home to pay tribute to his replacement, Bon Scott in Perth.

Evans sang lead vocals on the first two AC/DC singles, 'Can I Sit Next To You Girl?' and 'Baby Please Don't Go' and he will perform these two songs at the show.

"We had a residency at Beethoven's night club for their late spot but also played other venues for the early spot." Evans told Undercover of his time with AC/DC, "The W.A. crowds loved us and I have great memories there of parties, gorgeous women and great rock crowds."

"A highlight for us was when we opened for Daddy Cool at an open air concert as we were all fans of the band. Unfortunately I have not been back to the West since those times and am really looking forward to it once I get back to Australia in February."

"It will be great to see some of my music contemporaries as it has been some time since I have seen many of them and I know that we will do Bon Scott proud!"

After he left AC/DC he moved to Newcastle, NSW to join Rabbit, a band some described as glam, but as Evans told Undercover, "The title glam does not fit well with us as the image was taken from the movie A CLOCKWORK ORANGE – before Kiss – and those boys were far from glam - more ultra violent."

He currently resides in Dallas, TX where he fronts his band Dave Evans and the Badasses.

The Bon Scott Celebration Concert will be held at the Claremont Showgrounds, Claremont, Western Australia on February 25.

The lineup includes Featuring The Angels, Rose Tattoo and The Party Boys, The Screaming Jets, Dave Warner from the Suburbs, The Kill Devil Hills, The Flairz and more.

Proceeds from the show will raise money for a Bon Scott statue in Fremantle, where the singer is buried as well as help out Support Act.

Brian Johnson has been participating in a new UK 'reality' TV series titled "The Race" which is being aired on Sky One in the UK. A group of celebrities are competing in race cars in this challenge, which has been set up as men v.s.. women. Brian fell to former Sabrina The Teenage Witch star Melissa Joan Hart during the first battle, but has made up some ground since.

The Race is on for wannabe celebrity GP aces. Original Story
Ten celebrity wannabe racing drivers are preparing to be put through their paces next week, as part of a new television show designed to see whether men or women really do make the better drivers.

Sky One's The Race will be presented by Denise van Outen, and will pit two teams of five against one another for seven days of frantic battle-of-the-sexes action under the guidance of team captains, Formula One stars Eddie Irvine and David Coulthard.

Former Ferrari ace Irvine – who finished runner-up in the Formula One World Championship in 1999 – will coach the boys, comprising ex-boxing world champion Nigel Benn, England football legend Les Ferdinand, AC/DC lead singer Brian Johnson, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels star Nick Moran and electro-pop pioneer Gary Numan.

Red Bull Racing ace Coulthard, meanwhile, will be in charge of training up urban music maestro Ms Dynamite, Tamara Ecclestone – daughter of Formula One boss Bernie – former Atomic Kitten Jenny Frost, US film star Melissa Joan Hart and TV personality Ingrid Tarrant.

"I can't wait to get trackside with the girls and boys to find out once and for all which sex really is better behind the wheel," van Outen enthused. "This is going to be the hardest week of some of our celebrity's lives and with David and Eddie in charge I can't see anyone being given an easy ride."

Before the real trials begin, in the first show each celebrity will have to obtain their Association of Racing Drivers Schools certificate (ARDS) to qualify them for the challenges ahead and ensure they have the necessary skills to cope. If they can't make it past this then they don't belong in The Race.

From then on it's high-octane entertainment as every day from 6 November one driver from each team will step forward to take part in a one-on-one driving duel, the Rev Head Challenge. With the pressure all on one person to bag valuable points and move their team up the grid, this will be a true test of character.

The main event of each day will see the celebs competing as a team against the opposite sex in everything from superminis and monster trucks to off-road buggies and Formula Lotus sportscars to improve their grand prix grid standing and avoid being handed the suit of shame. With team pride and camaraderie playing as big a part as personal rivalries and self-esteem, passions and tensions are set to run high.

Overseeing it all will be safety expert Dave Allen, lads lieutenant Steve Deeks, girls guide Liz Halliday and of course Coulthard and Irvine, stepping in to pass judgment on their team's performance.

As if competing together wasn't enough to fray the nerves, the celebrities will be living together for the week in a purpose-built compound situated within the confines of Silverstone. They'll have all the comforts of custom-built luxury buses, but with the cameras following them here as well viewers will get to see how much heat they carry with them away from the circuit.

Every night live at 10pm on Sky One from the studio at Silverstone, van Outen will be looking back at the day's highlights from the track, as well as inviting a selection of celebrities to talk through their triumphs and disappointments. Viewers can then switch over to Sky Three when from 11pm Iain Lee will go further behind the scenes with more news and interviews trackside from throughout the day.

When the dust settles on Friday it's time to lose one member of each team as Coulthard and Irvine are asked to assess each of their team member's performances and, Weakest Link style, select their least impressive driver for elimination.

It's then onto Sunday's Grand Prix as the remaining eight drivers strap themselves into their high spec Formula Fords – capable of 0-100kmh in under five seconds – to put the week's lessons to the test with 30 laps around Silverstone in the thrilling finale. As the celebs go under starters orders they know they'll have to work with their colleagues to ensure valuable points for a team victory, while at the same time it's every man and woman for themselves as they all compete to be crowned champion.

Yet...Another new AC/DC Biography!

"AC/DC Maximum Rock & Roll", the definitive AC/DC biography, is being released on October 25 in Australia by HarperCollins. Co-authored by Australia's best rock journalist Murray Engleheart and Arnaud Durieux, this massive 480-page book is the result of five years of intensive research and work and is without a doubt the most in-depth work on the band ever written. 75 exclusive interviews were conducted for this project, including AC/DC members and associates who never went on the record about the band before, and a massive research was undertaken to dig over a thousand interviews the band has given over the past 32 years. Over 100 rare photos are also included, most of them unpublished before.

AC/DC frontman Angus Young was crowned Kerrang! Legend at this year's Kerrang! Awards in London.

His band graced the first ever cover of the British rock magazine back in 1981.

Kerrang! editor Paul Brannigan called them "one of the most important and influential rock bands in history".

The awards, voted by magazine readers, were held at The Brewery in east London and hosted by former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable.

Former AC/DC drummer Chris Slade — who performed on 1990's quintuple platinum "The Razor's Edge", as well as the group's landmark live album recorded during the corresponding tour — will make a guest appearance at the "Girls Got Rhythm" record release party tonight, when he takes the stage to join the all-female AC/DC tribute band THUNDHERSTRUCK. It won't be the first time the group has been joined by Slade, whose resume also includes stints with URIAH HEEP, ASIA and THE FIRM; he recently teamed with the band during an overseas USO performance for American troops.

Some newer AC/DC Bootleg releases have been seen for sale online as follows:

"The Last Blood" , an LP vinyl release from France containing an unreleased London Hammersmith Odeon show from November 16th, 1978.

"MELBOURNE '88" , Apparently a limited edition acetate only LP of 24 copies worldwide:

An AC/DC & OZZY OSBOURNE Split LP titled "Ozzy and Aussies...a tribute to Ronnie and Randy"

"MORE VOLTAGE ON STAGE" a one sided vinyl LP which contains the performance from Nurenburg 9/1/79

NUReNBuRG '79 CD (Nurenberg 9/1/79)

"BLOW UP TACOMA" Double CD limited to 100 copies worldwide. Tacoma 1988 plus rare tracks.

THUNDHERSTRUCK — one of 13 groups featured on "Girls Got Rhythm", a female tribute band collection also featuring such well known acts as THE IRON MAIDENS, CHEAP CHICK and MISTRESS OF REALITY — will "headline" the record release party, which takes place at the Key Club in Hollywood, Calif. Also on the bill are ZEPPARELLA and MS. FITS, both of whom are also featured on the compilation. The groups will be opening for the club's long-running Monday night '80s metal tribute, METAL SKOOL. Additionally, one lucky attendee will win a Champagne Sparkle Rock Candy guitar courtesy of Daisy Rock Guitars. Doors open at 8 p.m.

Featuring cover art by Alan Forbes (OZZY OSBOURNE, AFI, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE), "Girls Got Rhythm" — advertised by its label, Liquor and Poker Music, as a "female tribute celebration featuring covers of classic hard rock and metal bands by the women who love them" — will be available for purchase at the show, one day before it's in stores. Its release commemorates the third anniversary of Liquor and Poker, the rock imprint of Century Media Records that has released two dozen acclaimed albums by the likes of FIREBALL MINISTRY, THE HELLACOPTERS, NEBULA and BACKYARD BABIES since its 2003 inception.

BRAND NEW AC/DC Biography due out for release on October 10th, 2006 titled "Let There Be Rock" by Susan Masino

AC/DC's album sales in the news again. "AC/DC Beat Beatles" reads one headline. Although not particularly "new" news, after an apparent recent RIAA update to their "top sellling artists" and "top selling albums" lists, AC/DC are now at 68 million albums sold in the USA alone, making them the 10th best selling musical act of all time in the USA, and "Back In Black" remains at 21 million copies making it the 5th best selling album in the USA of all time, higher than any release by The Beatles.

It is estimated that AC/DC have now sold well over 150 million albums on a worldwide basis.

NEW ARTICLE from The AGE Australia reveals that the recent Irene Thornton (Bon's Ex) sale of personal photos and letters from Bon will be on display for all fans to see (a generous gesture by the purchaser). Still no official new AC/DC album news...

July 18th, 2006:

Please see the REVIEWS section for posted reviews on Paul Stenning's "Two Sides Of Every Glory" AC/DC Biography and Buffalo's "Only Want You For Your Body" CD.

A terrible shame!! IDIOTS have apparently desecrated Bon Scott's memorial area by vandalizing and stealing Bon's memorial plaque, none other than on the date of his 60th Birthday (July 9th). The plaque was apparently stolen by the vandal(s) on Sunday July 9th and has yet not been returned. No further information has been received regarding the identity of the offender.   NTA in Australia (National Trust Of Australia) has recognized this incident, and has announced plans to replace the plaque with a new one as reported by ABC news Australia.

July 9th, 2006:

Happy birthday to the late great BON SCOTT. Always in our hearts. Have a drink on me mate!

A copy of AC/DC's "Back In Black" on ORANGE vinyl pressed in Ecuador, as well as a copy of "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" ALSO on ORANGE Vinyl, pressed in Ecuador were both recently sold on ebay for $665 and $775 respectively. ebay link 1 ebay link 2

It is thought, however, that these are counterfeit pressings, and not authentic originals.

Many AC/DC Fans know that Lead Guitarist Angus Young loves to paint as one of his pastimes and personal passions while not on the road. In 2003, BLENDER magazine published one of Angus' paintings, and since not many AC/DC fans have ever seen anything that Angus has ever painted, I thought I would share this image with you...

Angus Young posing in front of one of his paintings. (A type C Photographic print)

AC/DC's "Highway To Hell" and "The Razors Edge" albums have both been recertified by the RIAA after reaching new sales heights as of May 25, 2006.  The band's 1979 album, "Highway to Hell" —  has been certified septuple platinum for sales in excess of seven million copies in the United States. Meanwhile, 1990's "The Razor's Edge" has passed the five-million mark in the U.S., earning it quintuple-platinum status.

"BACK IN BLACK" the first ringtone to be named by the RIAA to be certified platinum! AC/DC have picked up a platinum certification for the "Back in Black" ringtone as part of the Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA) recently announced formal launch of a Master Ringtone Sales Award, updating its 47-year old Gold and Platinum program to recognize the growing popularity of enjoying music through cellular phones.

In other news, photographs of late AC/DC singer Bon Scott and the rest of AC/DC are included in a charity photograph exhibtion that is currently running in St Kilda, Melbourne, Australia. The exhibition opens at Lab X Gallery on June 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 40 Pakington St, St Kilda, and runs from June 18 to July 30, 2006. Classic Rock Productions has released a new box set containing a book and 2 DVD discs titled "AC/DC - Music in Review" which was released on June 19th.
press release info: This is the ultimate critical review of a legendary band, from the early days when AC/DC rose from playing obscure clubs to conquering the world. Featuring rare footage, much of it appearing on DVD for the first time, this powerful film draws together a team of leading critics and working musicians to review the legacy of probably the best hard rock band the world has ever seen. The book features a comprehensive track by track critical analysis of every AC/DC album from 1975-2000. Featuring highlights from Let There Be Rock, Hell Ain’t A Bad Place To Be, Highway To Hell, Rock ‘n’ Roll Damnation, Back In Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, For Those About To Rock (We Salute You) and many more.

June 5th, 2006:

Apparently, there was another copy of the infamous "12 OF THE BEST" in cassette form sold recently on EBAY! The cassette sold for $2,801.23 US. (AU $3,730.00), not quite as much as the copy that was sold several months ago for over $9,000 US! This copy also proves that more than one is in existence, so it gives thought that more copies may still exist!

(note: "12 OF THE BEST" was a 'BEST OF/GREATEST HITS' release that was intended for 1978 in Australia by Albert Productions, but Malcolm Young didn't like the idea, so the release was scrapped. Only a handful of LP sleeves (no vinyls were pressed) are known to exist, and now 2 known copies of the actual cassette release are known to exist. To collectors worth easily over $2-3 thousand dollars or more).

As well as being the home of the entire AC/DC catalogue, Alberts is also worldwide publisher of the band's copyrights. AC/DC was recently named by RIAA as the fifth highest selling recording act in American music history, having surpassed 120 million album sales worldwide.

The new licensing deal with SONY BMG Australia will see Alberts' back catalogue, digital content and future CD and DVD releases issued through SONY BMG Music Australia and New Zealand. It will also bring the AC/DC catalogue under the same label banner internationally for the first time.

Denis Handlin AM, Chairman & CEO of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT Australia & New Zealand, said: "Alberts' contribution to Australian music cannot be overstated. We are absolutely delighted to strike this new licence partnership for Australia and New Zealand."

"David Albert and Fifa Riccobono have exciting plans for continuing local artist signings going forward. We can see great opportunities to enhance sales of Albert's releases through traditional and digital channels.

"The whole SONY BMG team is really looking forward to working with David and Fifa and the Albert's team to achieve great success going forward with their catalogue and new releases."

On signing the new label deal Alberts' MD David Albert and Executive Director Fifa Riccobono said: "the agreement with Sony BMG comes at an exciting time for the company with a revitalised period of acquisition, artist signings as well as the international exploitation of great new rock acts for both the UK and Australian labels. Alberts is currently associated with Sony BMG internationally through the AC/DC recording catalogue. The local label signing is another opportunity to build on this successful partnership." They also added "Alberts would like to acknowledge and thank all at FMR/Warners for their work over the past four years, in particular Ed St John and Michael Parisi."

As one of Australia's leading independent rock labels, Alberts continues to champion great acts and expand on its legendary history. Dallas Crane is scheduled to release their second album for the label following the success of their 2005 triple ARIA nominated self-titled debut album. Other releases will be scheduled for Alberts UK artists including Breed 77 and The Answer.

SONY BMG is Australia's leading music entertainment company, holding the #1 market share position for sales and airplay as well as local artist success in both 2005 and 2006 to date.

THE REAL GEORGE YOUNG (news from www.accadacca.net )

We have been receiving reports of someone passing himself off as the well known songwriter, recording artist and producer George Young.

In some instances it seems that the impostor has convinced his victims to hand over money, credit cards and other valuables by promising things such as recording sessions and concert tickets. He has even convinced some promoters that he can book AC/DC for them.

For the record, this is the REAL George Young!
