The Narthex

The Narthex is the large gathering space that you walk into after you leave the entrance vestibule. You can notice the parish logo again (in a more abstract form), this time in the set of stained glass windows. The ceiling in the narthex is a copy of the ceiling over the altar inside the church. It starts to prepare us for what we will experinence as we go deeper into the church. The use of stained glass and the interesting texture and pattern of the floor lend an excitement and creativity of spirit to this area. It is very conducive for greeting people and gathering with them after Mass is over. One of the warmest aspects of St. Thomas More is the way people greet each other as they enter to go into Mass.

There is a variety of furniture in the narthex: a large antique table, a wonderfully carved bench made from antique wood, and a set of stands where literature is made available.

Another stand holds the book for prayer petitions. People are invited to write petitions in the book and to read others' intentions and pray for the needs that are listed there.

To the left of the narthex is a hallway which leads to the Parish Center (this was the building which previously held our chapel) where there are a number of meeting rooms. There is also a bookrack in the hallway which contains books for sale.
